Bloat and or Torsion can be Deadly to Your Large Dog

Bloat is a horrible thing for any dog to go through. It has the same symptoms as torsion and the end result is the same. Your dog will need surgery to survive.

“Hi my name is Beau and my man servant (aka my owner) asked me to tell you about my experience with this major canine health problem.

Predisposition to this problems comes from being a large dog , with a deep chest and a high tucked up waist. Myself, I’m a Standard Poodle and my story is as follows

One day I was ravenous and ate a lot of dry kibble which made me very thirsty so I drank a lot of water and then went out to run and play with my friend Mimi. I was running and playing, showing off and having a lot of fun while all the time the kibble was swelling up in my stomach. Before I new what had happened my stomach actually flipped over in my body and to make matters worse took my spleen with it.

With the entrance and exit blocked off, the food in my stomach started to ferment and my stomach started to swell. I wanted to stay out all night but my man servant brought me in realizing that some thing was wrong. He stayed with me through the night and in the morning I went straight to my doctor.

When I was diagnosed the doctor (veterinarian) said there was a 40 percent chance of my dying on the table and 60% chance of dying in the next 10 days after that.

It was a terrible time but I survived the whole ordeal and went back to being a gentleman of leisure and living the good life.”

I wouldn’t think that this is a problem you would encounter in dog grooming which is good because all the dog grooming tools or dog supplies in the world won’t help, but if you have a large dog you should know of this possibility. You’ll need to get your dog to your veterinarian just as soon as you spot the problem.
