A Part of Your Dog Grooming Tools should Include Ear Cleaning Pet Supplies

To clean your dogs ears. Dig through all the dog grooming tools that you’ve now collected. Pull out your ear cleaner, cotton balls and hemostats. Dog grooming also means health care for your dog. Except for the cotton balls or q-tips the rest of the dog grooming equipment needed for this are available at your dog grooming supplies house or in your pet supplies catalogue.

Some breeds of dogs grow hair in the ears that can block the ear canal you will want to remove any hair that is blocking the ear canal.

Raise the ear leather and put a puff of ear powder in the ear. With your hemostats or with your fingers if you can you are now going to pull the hair out of the ear canal. Remember not to go to far into the ear. There’s an eardrum down there and you don’t want to risk rupturing it. I never go beyond the natural bend of the ear canal.

Once you have the hair out of the ear canal, or if you don’t need to do that procedure you can start with the actual cleaning. I use an application bottle that they would be used for applying hair dye. Pour a little cleaner in the ear and then gently rub the ear together. Your dog will probably shake most of the ear cleaner out of his ear at this point. Then take you hemostats with an appropriate size cotton ball attached to the end and swab out the ear canal. Removing any dirt, debris, and wax that might be in there.

Some dogs have small ear canals and you can do an very effective ear cleaning using a q-tip and have less chance of hurting the eardrum.

A quick note is that some dogs never have any dirt, wax or debris in their ears. My little dog is a prime example of this. She has never had her ears cleaned in 12 years and they are pink and healthy. My big dog needs his ears cleaned on a regular basis
