Dogs in the Hound Group can need more than a dog brush

Dog grooming for the hound group is a bit easier as long as you don’t mind picking up a dog brush on a regular basis. For show purposes most of these dogs are shown in their natural state with just a bit of trimming around the feet and body to get rid of irregular hair.

On the other hand if you don’t like a lot of dog hair around then on dogs like the Afghan hound you just may want to pick up your dog grooming clippers and dog grooming scissor and keep them with a short haircut.

The breeds of dogs in this group are used for hunting. Some of them date back to very ancient times. There are two types of hounds in this group. They are scent hounds and sight hounds. Scent hounds hunt by smell and sight hounds by sight.

Dogs falling into this group are:

The Afghan Hound, Basenji, Basset Hound, Beagle, Black and Tan Coonhound, Bloodhound, Borzoi, Dachshund, American and English Foxhound, Greyhound Harrier, Ibizan Hound, Irish Wolfhound Norwegian Elkhound, Otterhound, Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, Pharaoh Hound, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Saluki, Scottish Deerhound, and the Whippet.

The shorthaired dogs are going to be the easiest for you to take care of, but they all require some amount of grooming
