A Dogs Natural Lay of Coat, Important in Dog Grooming

The lay of coat is an important factor in dog grooming.

When grooming with dog grooming clippers the lay of the coat is important to how your dog grooming job turns out. Use the natural lay of the coat as your guide.

As in life there is nothing that is a steadfast rule and you may find that your dog has cowlicks or possibly the coat has areas that just lay in a different direction. It’s certainly not a problem. Next time you’ll know it’s there and adjust for it.

You will either be grooming on the lay of the coat or doing a reverse grooming. If done properly you will have a smooth finish when you are done.

I have sketched a simple rendering of the lay of the hair. Please understand that I am not an artist and that the lay of the coat can vary with every dog. A beagle would be a good example to study for way the coat lays.
