If Listed as a Non Shedding Dog it May Also be a Hypo-Allergenic Dog
Is there truly a non shedding dog? There are certainly breeds of dogs listed as non-shedding. These dogs are usually single-coated dogs that don’t have a second soft downy undercoat so there is no large seasonal dropping of coat. As far as a total non-shedding canine I don’t believe you will find one. All dogs shed some hair at one time or another seasonally or year round there will be some sort of hair loss. All these dogs require dog grooming on a regular schedule. You will want to have your dog grooming tools ready for whatever the grooming requirements for that breed may be. Regular grooming will certainly control whatever hair loss may occur All the dogs listed as a hypo-allergenic dog are also considered a non shedding dog. Then there are some others that are also minimal shedding dogs. These range from small dogs to big dogs and include some of the new designer dog breeds.
Havanese
Havanese are a great little dog, my own opinion. They are a lot like little clowns, very loveable, small and a great dog for someone with limited space. Now there is the obvious in non-shedding dogs. The
Xolocuintle
also knows as the Mexican Hairless. Let’s point out the obvious. No hair, no shedding. No hair grooming needed but skin care is a must. The breeder or a groomer who knows the breed can help you with this endeavor. Also in the hairless or almost hairless category is the
Chinese Crested.
Again the regular grooming is going to be based on skin care. It seems the Chinese Crested that I have met have big dog attitudes in a small dog’s body. The
Bedlington Terrier
is an unusual looking dog with a sheep like appearance. This is a high maintenance dog with a very specific trim in regards to grooming.
Poodles
are another breed of dog that is hypo-allergenic and non-shedding. Again you have a high maintenance dog in regards to their grooming.
