The Portuguese Water Dog A Hypo-Allergenic Dog and A Non Shedding DogThe Portuguese Water Dog,is known as a non shedding dog, and is listed with the American Kennel Club as a hypo-allergenic dog. At one time this dog could be found all along the Portugal coast as a working dog, trained to herd fish into nets, recover lost fishing tackle and fishing nets, and act as couriers from ship to ship and ship to land. It is believed this dog originated in the Central Asian Steppes in the 700 BC era and were transported to different areas sometime later. This dog should stand 20 to 23 inches at the withers and the females should stand 17 to 21 inches at the withers. Male dog should weigh 42 to 60 pounds and the females 35 to 50 pounds. You will need all your dog grooming tools to take care of this dog. Your dog grooming table will be a plus, along with your dog grooming clippers and clipper blades, brushes scissors and combs. This dog’s grooming should be accomplished on a 4 week basis with lots of brushing and combing in between times.
