Torsion has the Same Results as Bloat in Big Dogs

“Another problem, torsion, that I Mr. Beau, went through months after I was healed from my operation involving bloat. The results from this were the same as bloat. Once again here is my story:

I was well healed from my bout with bloat. Feeling young and alive and watching my diet I wanted to go to the dog park and visit with all the friends I hadn’t seen since my problem. So I had my man servant take me there to see my friends.

We were all running and playing, I was catching up on all the goings on that I had missed. Meeting new friends and finding out who had moved away. The park is always fun with big dogs and small dogs and all varieties in between.

I was just trotting across the park minding my own business, taking a little time out from the play, when out of the blue, a greyhound dog who had been rescued from a race track came charging my way. As you might have guessed he only knew two speeds, stop and go. Well he plowed into my side and I went rolling. My goodness he was built like a brick, all muscle and bone and running at full speed. He didn’t mean to hit me, but he did.

That was enough to loosen the stitches that were holding my stomach in place and sometime after that my stomach turned in my body once again. This time the recovery was much easier but nothing I want to go through a third time.”

This happens when a big dog receives a sever blow to his body. Whether it's from falling, being hit by a car, or hit by a greyhound dog or space debris falling from the heavens.

If you ever have an inkling of an idea that your dog is suffering from torsion, don’t hesitate, make an emergency appointment for you dog, tell them what you think might be the problem and they won’t hesitate to get you in immediately.

If Beau had not been young and otherwise very healthy he would have died from the bloat the first time and he seems somewhat of a miracle surviving the second incident at the dog park incident. The only good answer to the problem is a veterinarian.
